Set-ups
A good set-up is the cornerstone of keeping a guitar playing and performing well. We can provide all manner or set-up services, from simple hardware adjustments to full fret levelling, electrical work and general servicing. If you’re not sure whether your guitar would benefit from a set-up, then we’d be happy to inspect or consult to see what would work for you.
Fretwork
Good fretwork is at the heart of all great playing guitars and it’s an element that sometimes gets overlooked on a lot of guitars. We offer a few different fretwork services to improve the overall playability and longevity of your instrument.
Levelling
If your guitar suffers from fret buzz or muted notes, it’s usually related to some high fret spots & you’ll likely benefit from having your frets levelled and re-dressed.
We check each fret at multiple points across its width, marking any high spots. If there are only one or two problematic sections then it may be possible to just spot-level those parts. If there are multiple areas that need addressing then it’s often better to level and re-dress the whole board.
Refretting
Refretting is not just a solution to heavily worn frets, it can also be a significant upgrade to your guitar. Most guitars are fitted with nickel-silver fretwire which performs well but is prone to corrosion and wear. Alongside nickel-silver replacement, we also offer stainless steel fretwire. Stainless has the advantage of being immune to corrosion and has a much higher density, making wear almost non-existent. It also is able to be polished to a much higher degree, making bended notes smoother to execute.
Routing
Routing work can encompass many things, from cavity adjustments, bridge retrofits, and new component accomodation. It’s a job we take very seriously, as it is one of the more delicate jobs that requires experience and concentration.
One of the more tricky routing jobs we offer is Evertune bridge retrofitting. These bridges require a multi-stage body rout, with many varying dimensions and depths. While these can be fiddly to do, they are also very satisfying and a good measure of knowing your way around a router.
Electrics
We take on all manner of electrical work, from simple component swaps to full rewiring. We’re well versed in fitting many different components and wiring schematics, and can help diagnose any problems you may be having. We always use good quality components, from Switchcraft®, CTS®, and Neutrik®, but are always happy to order in specific parts on request.
We use Hakko® branded soldering gear, and solder wire with a high silver content to ensure all joints stay clean and solid.
